What’s your happy place?
the oasis that brings you peace. happiness. tranquility.
Here’s mine:
Picture this. You wake up to the subtle sun beaming through your cottage window. It’s a calm and early morning. You take your time and continue to wake up with the sun. You get out of bed, put on your favourite sweats and open the door to a cool but swift breeze. You walk upstairs to the kitchen and make a coffee as the birds are chirping. This is where I would start playing my mellow morning coffee playlist. You finish up, walk down by the dock or sit on a hammock outside, enjoying what’s around you or even reading a book. That’s it right there. The perfect cottage morning.
My other oasis is at my old ski chalet. We used to finish up our ski days, eat dinner and then make a fire and sit on the couch as a family. We would play a game (I would usually always try to convince everyone to play monopoly but no one would budge). We would sit, play and drink hot chocolate, just to look outside seeing piles of snow dimly lit in the forest. That used to be the perfect night.
Oh wait, another one. Driving in the mountains on the way to Vancouver. Just me, my sister and the highway. Surrounded by all the greenery. Listening to my ‘iced oat lattes in the mountains playlist’ or her Spotify playlists (although I am not an active Spotify user). Every once in a while I would see a bear. Something cool. I think my favourite part was seeing the sun set and moon rise. Skies were ombre blue and violet. I don’t think a moment could ever be so perfect.
It’s moments like these where I remember these happy places. The places that take all of my stresses in one hand, and throw them out the door. POOF. They’re gone.
my oasis, I like to say.
The places that take my mind off of reality.
Letting me take in moment by moment. They joy I am feeling.
I want you to think about your oasis. The moment that made you the happiest. Or the place that brings you the most peace. Because it’s these moments where we can remember that good things are to come. Life isn’t always this stressful and that these short periods of business don’t last forever. If I could say one thing, it would be to use these moments. cherish them with you and appreciate that these small moments are not rare. You can take whatever you want out of each moment, but remember the “bad” is essentially something you are going to grow through and eventually you are going to have these oasis moments or find your hideaways.
My oasis could be a memory, yes. But it doesn’t let me forget that life still moves forward and despite going through these hard times, and thinking about these memories remind me to continue to push through, and work hard, because new memories will happen and life is pretty unpredictable that I might find a new oasis.
Take this time to reflect. And think about those small moments in your life. Because who knows, maybe you will discover some pretty cool places that you forgot about, or those crazy moments that made you forget about every stress in your life.
STAY KIND:)
with love
