Thrifting In The 6ix

Thrifting in Toronto can be a definite hit or miss, and this week, I wanted to do a little review over my experience!

Recently, I have been to the city a few times and shopped both fast fashion (Box Stores) and thrifting and they are seriously completely different worlds; except I have noticed that thrifting has surprisingly gotten pretty expensive. I guess it definitely depends on what stores you end up shopping at downtown, but I was kinda shocked by how much I was spending on some of these items.

Although pricing varies with many stores, I can guarantee that you will get really good quality clothing while thrifting.

If you’re looking for efficient stores where you can quickly browse and find something, then definitely look on West Queen Street. Most stores on the west side offer really cool vintage items and graphic t-shirts and jackets that are honestly so hard to resist buying. Especially since a big trend is oversized t-shirts and throwback clothes from brands like Nike, Reebok, and Adidas, you definitely can’t go wrong with any of these stores.

A lot of stores only offer one of each item and the sizing completely varies, but then you know you have a unique product that you can make your own. Thrifting the other day, I found the coolest oversized Chicago Bulls shirt (shoutout to Marc E., I had to rep the team!), and my sister found a neon Nike jacket that turns into a vest. From those items, we knew we could create some really cool outfits while setting a few trends ourselves!

I have become more familiar with thrifting over the past year from going with my brother and sister as well as some of my close friends, and in Toronto my new favourites are F As In Frank and Throwback Vault! They are pretty small shops but have racks on racks of clothing to browse through!

I love how thrifting has become so popular when it comes to shopping. I find it nice to not see unused clothing go to waste and see some older trends resurface! Although I love stores like Aritzia and Zara (will be talking more about in future blogs; I have so many ideas), it’s fun to discover small shops that have so much history and style to offer. It’s even nicer to leave some major trends to the side and find some really amazing items!

Thanks for reading this week’s blog! Comment below if you have tried thrifting and let me know about your experience!
